Antón Tovar Literary Competition of the Museo da Limia

The Board of the Museo da Limia, in Vilar de Santos, calls a literary competition named after the poet Antón Tovar, born in A Pereira (Rairiz de Veiga). It wants to spread his work and to keep asking the Real Academia Galega to dedicate Galician Literature Day (Día das Letras Galegas) to him ^[1].

Background

Since 2021, the centenary of Tovar’s birth, the Museum has promoted initiatives to spread his work. In 2022 it delivered to the RAG headquarters a file with several hundred supporting signatures and numerous documents. At the start of 2023 an Antoloxía poética of the author was published, edited by Delfín Caseiro with a preface by Xesús Alonso Montero, intended mainly for schools ^[1][3]. See Antón Tovar.

1st Competition (2024)

It was called in April 2024 on the 20th anniversary of Tovar’s death, sponsored by the Balneario de Cortegada and the Hotel Bienestar Termas de Monção. The rules asked for original, unpublished creations in Galician, in prose (maximum 400 words) or verse (maximum 30 lines), with a maximum of two works per author, glossing some aspect of the writer’s work or person or his relationship with A Limia ^[1]. The prize was presented on Saturday 15 June 2024 at the Museum, with musical accompaniment by Anxo Rei.

2nd Competition (2025)

The Board called it on 5 February 2025 ^[2], sponsored by Bienestar Hoteles y Resorts SL and the magazine Tempos Novos, directed by Luis Álvarez Pousa of A Limia. The poem "Voar", by the Limia poet Daniel Rivero Meno, won. The prize consisted of a weekend for two people with full board at the Hotel Bienestar Termas de Monção and publication of the work in Tempos Novos. The ceremony was on Saturday 14 June 2025, at 19:00, in the Museum’s courtyard: Delfín Caseiro spoke about Tovar’s work, pupils of CEIP Carlos Cid Arregui, from Rairiz de Veiga, read one of the author’s poems, the jury secretary, Xoán Jardón, read the minutes and the jury president, Conchita Rúa, presented the prize. The Board again asked the RAG for the 2026 Día das Letras for Tovar ^[3][4].

3rd Competition (2026)

The Museum announced the award ceremony of the 3rd Competition for 20 June 2026, with no further detail in the sources consulted ^[5].
