Routes and walks
The Concello de Porqueira has designed a 12 km route of low to medium difficulty (easy, but for people used to walking) that starts and ends at the Concello. It passes the church of Santa María de Porqueira, the Fervenza viewpoint, the Torre da Forxa, the cultivated plain and woodland, the Lagoa de Míllaras and the River Lima on the plains of Ponte Liñares, an area of the Natura network. The highest point is at 764 m, with views over the Limia plain to the north and the mountains of Tourém and Pitões das Júnias [3].
The waterfall is the most outstanding feature: it is reached by the path that passes the Torre da Forxa, and from there a circular variant of about 4 km also starts [3]. The best season is spring and early autumn, and the source advises taking water, comfortable footwear and binoculars for birdwatching. The Concello (988 466 102) provides information on the waymarking and route, and there is a PDF guide on the Fronteira Esquecida site [3].
From Calvos de Randín, the circular footpath of the Carballeiras de Castelaus, of about 9.3 km, reaches a wooden walkway near the Fírbeda waterfalls [4].
