The Pedra Alta Prize of the Museo da Limia (2017-2025)
The Pedra Alta Prize, created in 2017 by the Board of the Museo da Limia, recognises people or organisations that leave a mark on A Limia: all the editions, from Elixio Rivas Quintas (2017) to Carlos Canal (2025).
The Pedra Alta Prize was created by the Board of the Museo Etnolóxico da Limia (Vilar de Santos) to recognise people or organisations whose work leaves a mark worthy of consideration in the lands of A Limia, or beyond them if they were born in this territory [5][8].
Origin
On 30 September 2017 the Advisory Council of the Museum’s Board, which defines the programme of activities, was constituted in Vilar de Santos; more than twenty men and women of A Limia belong to it, among them the mayor of Vilar de Santos Xoán Jardón, Delfín Caseiro (president of the Board), the historian Edelmiro Martínez Cerredelo, the architects Manuel Seoane and Lola Peláez, the sculptor Xosé Lois Carreira and Noemi Vázquez, of the cultural café "A Arca de Noé". The first meeting agreed to create the prize, aimed at recognising work that "highlights knowledge of the past, analysis of present reality, intellectual creation, identity elements, or support for the economic and social development of the comarca" [1].
The award is a replica of the menhir of the former Lagoa de Antela (see A Pedra Alta), the work of the Limia sculptor Xosé Lois Carreira, and a diploma designed by the architects Manuel Seoane and Lola Peláez; the three collaborate selflessly [2]. The award ceremony is usually held at the Museum and in the multipurpose hall of Vilar de Santos Town Council, followed by a fellowship lunch at the Novaíño restaurant [2][6].

- 2022, SGHN – Antela Section. Honoured for eleven years of work restoring wetlands in the former lagoon; the ceremony, on 26 November 2022, included a guided tour of the Museum and a photo exhibition for the 25th anniversary of Antela. A memoria asolagada [6]. The Antela Section was created on 2 February 2011, World Wetlands Day and the 40th anniversary of the Ramsar Convention, for the part of the comarca where the lagoon lay; the Board decided to honour it unanimously on 22 October 2022, prioritising the defence of life in the heart of A Limia [14].
- 2023, Amalia Gómez Manso (Santa Ana, Sandiás, 1927). About sixty years ago she turned a village tavern on the N-525 into Novaíño (Piñeira de Arcos), the comarca’s emblematic restaurant, now run by the third generation; the prize honours all the grandmothers and mothers of A Limia [7].
- 2024, Edelmiro Martínez Cerredelo (Miro). Presented on 23 November 2024 in Vilar de Santos, with nearly 200 people [8]. See Edelmiro Martínez Cerredelo.
- 2025, Carlos Canal Blanco (Xinzo de Limia, 28/06/2001), professional cyclist with the Movistar team, trained at Club Ciclista Maceda; the prize also honours the bicycle as a means of transport in A Limia and the bicycle workshops. The ceremony, on 6 December 2025, brought together over a hundred people, attended by the mayors of Xinzo, Vilar de Barrio, Sandiás and Vilar de Santos and by the earlier winners Antonio Rodríguez Corbal (CDR "O Viso") and Miro Cerredelo [9][10].
