Family and guerrilla war
His mother, Carmen Fernández Seguín, had acted as a liaison for the anti-Francoist opposition after the 1936 coup, his father had been on the run in the hills and his brother Camilo, who began acting as a liaison at thirteen and joined the armed struggle in 1948, was arrested in 1949. Perfecto was part of Juan Sorga’s group and, from October 1948, the group tried to reach France [1]. See The anti-Francoist guerrilla in A Limia.
Death at Chaherrero
On 16 May 1950, a Civil Guard pair surprised the group at Chaherrero; Perfecto stopped, threw himself into a ditch and returned fire, and died in the shootout; his mother was arrested and tried in Ourense, sentenced to thirty years. He was buried in a pit outside the Catholic cemetery [1][2].
Exhumation
The Association for the Recovery of Historical Memory exhumed his remains at Chaherrero on 19 July 2014 to bring them to Ourense, 64 years after his death, thanks to a donation from a Norwegian trade union [1][2].
