Routes and walks

The Concello has published three circular footpaths waymarked with posts, each in a leaflet with a map and profile [3][4][5]. All three are in the Biosphere Reserve and allow visitors to see the restored heritage: mills, ovens, springs, threshing floors and pazos [3].

  • Sendeiro de Parada (11 km, 3 hours, low difficulty; short variant of 6.5 km and 2 hours). It starts from Parada de Outeiro, where the church of Santa María holds the saint San Bieito Preto, who gathers thousands of people at Easter. It continues through Outeiro, Bamba and Bedos (an old path among centuries-old oak groves), Laioso (chapel of San Xoán and Fonte da Lama), Bréixome de Arriba (with a well-preserved water mill), A Venda (one of the widest views of A Limia, with the Xurés, the Pico do Mediodía and the Larouco in the background) and A Lobeira and Cachemendo, before returning through O Vieiro [3].
  • Sendeiro do Ruxidoiro (3.7 km, 1 hour, low difficulty). It begins at the Romanesque church of San Xoán de Vilar de Santos, moved from the village of Saa, and passes through the village of Saa, the former municipal capital now abandoned and being recovered, built on rock with cart ruts still visible. It ends at the abandoned Ruxidoiro mill, in the core zone of the Biosphere Reserve, and returns by the Fonte do Pazo, of Roman origin, to the Cachalgura park [4].
  • Sendeiro de Castelaus (5.1 km, 2 hours, medium difficulty). It leaves from the Castelaus recreation area and the Fonte dos Espiñeiros, climbs towards Panadeira and O Toutizo to Monte Cobelo among oaks, and descends by the old path to Vilar de Santos, with views of A Limia and the ponds of the areeiras [5].

The Parada leaflet also recalls the milestones of the Vía Nova at Parada, Cachalgura, Casas da Veiga and Padrosos [3].
