Benito Valencia Bouza was born in Farnadeiros (Muíños) on 10 May 1910 and died at the Boado bridge, on the boundary of Xinzo de Limia, in August 1936. He was a trade unionist and politician [1].
Life
He emigrated to Buenos Aires in 1927, where he worked as a waiter. On his return he settled in Güimil; he was an official of the Muíños council, secretary of the Souto Peasants’ Union and a Popular Front councillor from March 1936. He married Digna Portela Penín in 1935 [1].
Death
With the coup d’état of July 1936 he was arrested and «taken for a walk» (paseado, the euphemism for an extrajudicial killing) at the Boado bridge, over the River Limia, on the road out of Xinzo towards Verín [1]. Galipedia gives 1 August 1936 as the date of death; Edelmiro Martínez Cerredelo records that the body was found on the 2nd, with a shot in the back of the neck, and that the death was registered on orders from above in case file no. 50 [1][2].
