Narciso Pascual Pascual was born on 11 August 1917 and died by firing squad in Guadalajara on 6 December 1936, aged 19. He was a Catholic religious, a brother of the Congregation of the Mission, and a martyr of the civil war, beatified by Pope Francis on 13 October 2013 [1].
Life
At 14 he entered the apostolic school at the sanctuary of Nuestra Señora dos Milagres do Medo, where he took two years of humanities; he then decided to join the Congregation of the Mission as a brother. He completed his studies at the central college in Guadalajara and entered the order’s internal seminary in Madrid on 26 November 1933; in 1935 he was sent to Cuenca to study theology and took his vows on 27 November of that year [1].
Martyrdom and veneration
In 1936, after several threats, the superior ordered the seminarians to leave, but Pascual stayed in Cuenca, hidden in the house of a friendly family, and then went to Madrid. Sent to Guadalajara, he was taken prisoner with his companions and shot on 6 December 1936. His cause for canonisation was opened on 12 October 1960 and, merged with that of Fortunato Velasco Tobar and 13 companions, he was beatified on 13 October 2013 [1].
