Cástor Demófilo Pedreira Rumbo, known as Nené, was born in Cortegada (Sarreaus) around 1922 and died in Mexico in 2012. He was a Galician anti-Francoist guerrilla [1].

Guerrilla and exile

Son of Manuel Pedreira Pazos, he was studying Medicine in 1942. Linked to the PCE, he organised a clandestine communist cell in a sanatorium in A Coruña and arranged the appendicitis operation of the guerrilla Evaristo Candelas. Fearing discovery, he fled to the hills in August 1942 and joined the Neira group, where he was in charge of political training and later head of the liaison officers for the A Coruña and Ferrol zone. He was tried with 29 others by the Lugo Military Tribunal (case 531/42) and in late 1942 managed to sail for Buenos Aires [1].

Afterwards

He studied engineering and specialised in fishing and canning. His son Rafael Antonio was arrested in La Plata in 1977 and is one of the people disappeared by the Argentine dictatorship. Demófilo returned to Galicia in 1978 trying to work in the fishing firms of the Rías Baixas, without success, but accepted the management of a subsidiary in Chiloé (Chile) and died in Mexico in 2012 [1].
