9 August 1936
The Civil Guard and six Falangists arrived at his home at midnight on 9 August; according to Cerredelo’s account, he clung to the gate of the house and shouted that if they wanted to kill him, they should kill him there, until blows from rifle butts made him let go. They took him to the Falange barracks in the town hall of Xinzo, where Cándido Gándara González had been held since 1 August. Both were found murdered in the early hours of 10 August, behind the wall of a field at km 4.9 of the road from Vilar de Barrio to the Santuario dos Milagres [1][2]. He was identified by an official letter from the council that he carried in his pocket, notifying him of his dismissal as councillor [2].
His part in the July 1936 funeral
Cerredelo notes that a daughter of his carried the flag of the Republic at the head of the funeral of the four railway workers killed on the day of Santa Mariña in 1936, and that his involvement in organising it may have been one of the reasons for his death [3].
The record in the Nomes e Voces database reads: male, aged 45, native of Xinzo, resident of Baronzás, killed on 10 August 1936 by a shot to the head at As Maus [4].
